Norfolk Southern Corp. has fired its CEO, James A. Squires, for violating the company’s ethics policy. The railroad giant announced the move in a statement on Tuesday, saying that an investigation had found that Squires had an inappropriate relationship with a female employee.

The company did not provide any further details about the relationship, but said that it had violated Norfolk Southern’s code of conduct. Squires has not commented on his firing.

Squires had been CEO of Norfolk Southern since 2015. He is a 30-year veteran of the railroad industry and has held various leadership positions at Norfolk Southern.

The company has named Alan Shaw, the former president and chief operating officer, as its new CEO. Shaw has been with Norfolk Southern for 35 years and has held various leadership positions in operations, marketing, and sales.

Norfolk Southern is one of the largest railroads in the United States. It operates approximately 20,000 miles of track in 22 states and the District of Columbia. The company has approximately 26,000 employees.
