Berhalter's Tenure Ends After Disappointing World Cup Performance

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has fired Gregg Berhalter as head coach of the US Men's National Soccer Team, the federation announced Wednesday. The move comes after a disappointing group-stage exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

44-17-13 Record in 74 Matches

Berhalter, 51, had a record of 44-17-13 in 74 matches since taking over as coach in 2018. He led the team to victory in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the inaugural 2020 CONCACAF Nations League. However, the team's failure to advance beyond the group stage of the World Cup proved to be his undoing.

Future of US Soccer

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup less than two years away, US Soccer is now tasked with finding a replacement for Berhalter. The federation has not yet announced a timeline for the hiring process. The team's next scheduled match is a friendly against Serbia on January 25 in Los Angeles.
